Google Says Android Carrier Billing Now Available With Sprint

Google has been working with various carriers to allow Android Market shoppers to buy apps and have them charged to their phone bill, and in a blog post today, Google said that option is now available to Sprint customers.

The carrier billing option was made available last year to AT&T and T-Mobile USA customers and is also an option now for customers of several Japanese carriers.

“We believe that direct carrier billing is a key payment option because it lets users purchase and pay for apps more easily,” Google’s Eric Chu said in the post. “It’s also important because it offers a convenient way to buy in regions where credit cards are less common.”

Google said that the rollout to Sprint customers is being done in phases, but that all customers should have the option in the next few days.

Additional payment options will be added “in the months ahead,” Chu said.
